Stem 80–100 x 10–20mm, white covered in violaceous slimy veil below cortinal zone. Flesh whitish to pallid tinged yellowish especially below cap cuticle. Taste mild, smell none. Gills clay then ochraceous-rust. Cheilocystidia thin-walled, hyaline, balloon-shaped, roughened, 12–14 x 7–9µ. Habitat deciduous woods, especially beech and also with conifers. Season autumn. Common.
